Stephen Paul Goodwin – January 12, 2026

Stephen Paul Goodwin, 77, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado, died on January 12, 2026 from complications of Heart Failure.

The son of Stanley Lucene and Ruth Elizabeth (Anderson) Goodwin, Steve was born on July 28, 1948, in Greenville, South Carolina, where his father was stationed as a member of the United States Air Force. As his father was assigned to new bases over the years, Steve had the opportunity to live in Munich, Germany; Riverside, California; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Wiesbaden, Germany; and then Hampton, Virginia, where he graduated from Hampton High School in 1966. His father had one last reassignment to Colorado Springs, and Steve followed his family there. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1971. Working in Civil Engineering, he had a long career, retiring in 1991 as a Master Sergeant with 20 years of service.

During one of two tours of duty in Korea, Steve married his first wife, Song, and welcomed his son, Carl Anderson (Andy), into the world. They were reassigned to Oscoda, Michigan where they then welcomed their daughter, Suzanne Leslie, into the family. They returned to Colorado Springs in 1981. Steve’s marriage to Song ended in the early 1990s, but he later met the woman that he knew he was meant to spend his life with. He married Bethany (known as BJ) on November 6, 1997 and welcomed BJ’s adult daughters and one son (Teresa Elpers, Jennifer Hackford, and Jason Winter) and their families into his expanding family.  Steve always said that BJ was his “other half” and he finally felt complete after marrying her. They both loved Colorado and made wonderful memories exploring Colorado’s beautiful mountains and lakes. Sadly, BJ passed away on October 30, 2016. Steve missed her terribly, but knew they would be together again when it was his time to “graduate” from this earth.

While living in Colorado, Steve achieved his goal of earning two college degrees from Regis University – a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems. His prior military experience and college degrees contributed to him having several post-military jobs in civilian civil engineering related fields and teaching Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) at Denver Technical College.

Steve spent the remainder of his life in Colorado, keeping himself busy continuing his many hobbies including reading, carpentry, and ham radio. He was deeply patriotic and very proud of his military service, as evidenced by his huge collection of military-themed baseball caps and t-shirts!

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 2-4 pm at Bear Creek Park, Pavilion #3, 1950 21^st Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80906.
