
Suzanne Patrice Fleer, lovingly known as Sue, was born on February 25, 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska. Shortly thereafter, her parents, Neal and Marcellyn (Pryor) Kurtenback, moved the family to Red Oak, Iowa, where Sue spent her formative years.
Sue attended school in Red Oak through the tenth grade before completing her high school education at the Duchesne Academy in Omaha, Ne. She later continued her studies at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA.
During her youth, Sue enjoyed spending her summers working as a lifeguard at the Red Oak City Pool, where she taught both children and adults how to swim, sharing her love of the water with others.
Sue’s professional career began with United Airlines after being hired as a ticket agent at Eppley Airfield in Omaha. It was there that she met her future husband, Darryl Fleer. They were married on January 20, 1962. Sue also worked at the Rodeo Hall of Fame Museum, serving as Guest Services Manager, along with volunteering at Memorial Hospital gift shop, generously giving her time to her community.
Sue is survived by her loving husband, Darryl; her three sons, William Neal and wife Susan, Mark Thomas and wife Ellen, and Steven Fredrick and wife Bianca; four cherished grandchildren; Austin and wife Madison, Kendall, Madison, and Ethan; and two great-grandchildren: Avery and Lincoln. Sue was dedicated to her family and leaves a legacy of love, warmth, and kindness that will live on through all that knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 23, at 2:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. A reception will follow.
Sue will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
