William Lee Hammond, 76, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on June 19, 2022 surrounded by his family.
William was born to Doris Jean Jacobmeier and William Marion Hammond in Lincoln Nebraska on November 13, 1945. He is the oldest of six children.
William joined the Army shortly after graduating high school. He dedicated over 25 years of honorable service to our country. While serving two tours in Vietnam, he earned the Vietnam cross of gallantry. He laid rest his military career with several additional awards including the bronze star.
He was an avid fisherman. He loved hunting, football, and spending quality time with his family.
William is survived by his loving family. He met the love of his life Erlinda Hammond and they celebrated 35 beautiful years together. He has 7 children, 18 grandchildren and counting.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 27, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910. Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, also at Shrine of Remembrance. Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Pikes Peak National Cemetery.
