William Lester Van Syckel – March 3, 2026

William Lester Van Syckel, age 73, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, following complications from cancer treatment after bravely battling liver cancer for eight years.

Bill was born on September 4, 1952, in Montville, New Jersey, to David and Jane (Peterson) Van Syckel. He spent much of his life in Montville before relocating to Peyton, Colorado, where he had been a resident for the past nine years.

Bill attended Boonton High School and later studied at NJIT.

Bill had a long career as an engineer before retiring. He was known for his analytical mind and outgoing personality.

On January 20, 1990, Bill married the love of his life, Dyanne, in Montville, New Jersey. Together they built a life centered on family, loyalty, and shared memories. Some of Bill and his wife’s favorite memories were their trips to Aruba, an island they loved deeply. The time they spent there—surrounded by friends, laughter, and ocean breezes—will always be a joyful reminder of the full and lively life they shared.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dyanne Van Syckel; his stepchildren, Donald Martin and Dawn Frates; his grandchildren: Daniel Frates, Delaney Frates, Kristie Lopez, and Donnie Martin; and his great-grandchildren: Matteo, Thea, Enzo, Donnie, Mila, and Oaklyn. All of whom brought him great pride and joy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 East Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.

A reception will follow the Celebration of Life at a different location, where family and friends are invited to gather to eat and share memories.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Bill’s name to his favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/.
